HOW WE GOT STARTED

I’ve always been handy around the house but during the COVID-19 pandemic like many others I started looking for something to do. One day my oldest daughter (I have 3) wanted a bookshelf to which I thought “I think I can do that”. And so I did. A month or so later I decided to build a shoe cubby for the front of our house - to try to get some organization to the mess of shoes that greeted me when I walked in the front door. (Don’t ask how successful I was in achieving the desired organization.)

Eventually I started making the types of items you see on this website. First for family and friends and then eventually my wife and I started doing craft shows on the weekend. (My wife was also looking for something to do during the pandemic and began chunky yarn knitting. You can check our her website at TheMacksCrafts.com).

After receiving positive feedback at the craft shows I decided to sell online and created 1WPWoodcraft.com

WHAT’S THE WITH THE NAME 1WP WOODCRAFT?

1WP stands for One Wing Pigeon.

WHY SUCH A NAME?

It's named after my middle daughter's pet pigeon Sister Mary Eunice who has one wing. Yes you read that right - we have a pet pigeon with one wing. (We also have a dog, 2 cats, 2 rats (yes, rats), and some fish. Truth is my house is more of a zoo. . . )

Anyway. . . .Sister Mary Eunice isn't any ordinary pigeon. She's a German Nun Pigeon (that's why she's a Sister ). Mary Eunice was found badly injured in a field. She had been flying around and was apparently attacked by a bird of prey - probably a hawk. She was brought to an animal rescue facility that my daughter worked at. Fortunately she survived. Unfortunately her left wing needed to be amputated. Thus making her a one wing pigeon. Once she was stable my daughter adopted her (without telling me beforehand) and brought her home.

While Sister Mary Eunice can no longer spread her wings and fly, she can still spread her one wing and be awesome.

Thus 1WP Woodcraft was born.
